Two exciting new training initiatives
PaMPITO is launching two exciting new training initiatives over the next couple of months.
Recognition of prior learning or current competence
Companies recognise the value of their employees having qualifications but in some circumstances employees don't need training, they already have the skills required to achieve a qualification. We are reviewing our policies for recognition of prior learning and current competence and making these processes simpler.
In particular we have developed a new service which looks at a company's health and safety practices and maps the practices to our health and safety certificates. This exercise enables us to recognise the skills employees already have and identify any specific gaps that need attention. It also means that companies are not paying for training when it's not needed.
Many companies have already signed up for this new service, so we are taking on a new person to carry out our recognition of current competence services. Click on the Jobs@PaMPITO page for information on this role: http://pampito.org.nz/AboutUs_Jobs.asp
Trainers / Mentors network
It's a fact, trainees have better success when they have someone in their workplace to support and mentor them. PaMPITO acknowledges the great work trainers and mentors do, so we want to support them to ensure they in turn have the tools to support their trainees. We have therefore set up a Trainers / Mentors network. Membership to the network is free of charge. As a member, you will:
- be invited to attend free professional development workshops and activities
- be invited to network events to swap ideas and issues with other mentors and trainers
- receive ongoing support from the PaMPITO team
- have the opportunity to receive and trial any new resources we develop
- be the first to hear about any new initiatives we're working on!
If you'd like to join our Trainers/Mentors network, please contact matiu@pampito.org.nz

Injection Moulding Advisory group
The Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding unit standards were reviewed throughout May-July 2009 by an Industry Advisory Group comprised of Scott Busby (Alto), Faheem Davids (Visy), and Nick Tienstra (Linkplas). The group was facilitated by PaMPITO in accordance with our standard setting role of updating and confirming unit standards on the National Qualifications Framework. Changes were suggested by and later confirmed by the Industry Advisory Group.
PaMPITO was happy to confirm the membership of this Industry Advisory Group for future work related to Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding qualifications.
Main changes resulting from the review:
- Typographical amendments have been suggested to align the content of some performance criteria more closely to the actual process requirements of Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding
- Unit Standard 15209 has been raised from Level 3 to Level 4 and from 8 credits to 12 credits
- Unit standard 15210 has been raised from Level 3 to Level 4 and from 8 credits to 12 credits
- Unit standard 15212 has been raised from Level 3 to Level 4 and from 8 credits to 16.
For more information on these changes please contact our Quality Systems Manager at matiu@pampito.org.nz.
